Gas Mileage and Exhaust Sound!
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:31:30 AM »
We all know that one of the best parts of our bike is the HD sound.  Some love the louder pipe, the better.  Most will change the stock exhaust to an after-market one to get a "better" sound, and a few will stay with the stock set up.
Disregard of what kind of exhaust/muffler that is on your bike, during the acceleration, rev up the engine to speed up the bike and to create a distinctive Harley Davidson exhaust sound WILL require more fuel.  In another word, the sound that comes from your exhaust is varied depending how much fuel will be drawn into the cylinder to be burnt.  More fuel equals more sound!
Gradually acceleration will produce quieter sound, but increase the MPG.  Your call! :)
