Route 66 - Second Attempt in 2012
« on: October 26, 2011, 09:03:22 PM »
I plan to ride the Route 66 again next year.  Probably sometime in late July, 2012.
This time, I will try the Route 66 Attractions with Ready2Go tours for Garmin Zumo.
It will be a lot easier for motorcycle, I hope.
Anyone has used this product, please give me your opinion, and anyone wants to join me, then please chime in.
Thanks
Nick

Update!
The time is not set yet, but I am very much locking in the last week of June.
I still have to wait for the vacation approval, and I will have a set day.
If you want to tag along, let me know.
 Wish me luck. :)

I think this is the last adjustment in terms of starting day.  I will arrive Chicago on the 18th and leave on the 19th of June, 2012.
I will keep it post! :)

3 more months, and I am able to adjust my vacation time, so I can arrive and leave Chicago one day earlier.
I have an itch, and I couldn't wait!  :)

 ;D
So how are you going to Chicago this time? If you plan on being in Chicago on the 18th that would put you somewhere around Cincinnati if you come up I 75.
I can't ride with ya but if your motel or campground is with in about 70 miles I will make it to meet ya 8)

You sound to dang excited already ;)

I hope that I can see you again, but I am still debating if I will motel, or camp along the Route 66, which I have no experience much. :)
Gas price is another issue; I have been paying more than $4/gal for awhile.
Take care buddy.

Well let me tell ya...I think you are like a 16 year old ready for his first date ;D
When you hit the road I know you have a great trailer for camping and I thought about it vs a motel...
You are a people person, people will come around you at a campsite when you are on a bike, they wanna hear your story, they are jealous...I would say take the camper, you know how to handle it,you have a great bike, people see your smile going down the road :)
Figured out how you are going to Chicago yet for the start of 66? Would like to see ya again if possible.

How I pack for this Route 66, and Cross Country Trip
« Reply #9 on: April 21, 2012, 01:08:29 AM »
This is for my record/check list, but I would like to share. :)
Let see that I can pack all the below stuffs on my bike, or I have to pull a small trailer.  I will list the location of each item that will be tightened to the bike.  I prefer to ride without the trailer.
  • Regular Go-kot, sleeping bag, camera tripod - vertical left side of the passenger seat
  • 8 man tent, so I can stand inside. - vertical right side of the passenger seat
  • Bear fence (optional. Not with the trailer)
  • Mr. Heater (optional, as I may not have room. Not with the trailer)
  • Ice chest (Advil, allergy medicines, water bottles)- on the top of the trunk
  • Medium Tour master luggage bag (clothes (1 jeans, 1 pair of thermal suits, 2 T-shirts, 2 underwear, 2 pair of socks, 2 sleeveless shirts, laptop/charger, external HD for data storage) - on the passenger seat.
  • Small add-on bag (sanitary stuffs: tooth brush/paste, 1 jeans, 1 pair of thermal suits, 1 T-shirts, 1 pair of flip flop, 1 pair of socks, 1 sleeveless shirts, 1 underwear) - on the passenger seat.
  • Air compressor/tire repair kits, tools, bug remover, sun blocks, bike cover, miscellaneous - left hard bag.
  • Rain suits, cameras, extra engine oil, water bottles, flash-light, night glasses, HD map book - right hard bag
  • Heavy jacket, FF helmet/water-proof gloves, chaps, battery chargers (cameras, cellular phone, extra pair of day light glasses) - Trunk
  • Sun blocks - Right front utility compartment
  • Miscellaneous stuffs (coins, video battery charger) - left front utility compartment
For now! :)
Let me know, if you have any suggestion.  Of course, for those must have items.

Thanks Bill!
That' s a good idea, but I am not sure that I can pack it, if I decide to ride without the trailer.
Sometime next week, I will have a pack up test to see whether I will need the trailer or not.
About keeping me dry, I don't think I have to worry about that. :)

June 17th..do you have a plan on where ya might be?I will do my best to try and make it there,Ky,Oh or In.
My rain suit took a dump, not worth a crap...what are you using on this trip and have you used it on other trips?
The best part about a rain suit is you can wear it even if it's  not raining for wind protection on a cold day.
I am soo jealous of you...I need a road trip... :)

Bill!
I am not sure where I am going to stay before riding to Chicago, but rest assure my friend, you are in my list! :)
I have been using the same rain suit (tour master) in the last ten years.  Not a drop on me in the down pour, all day long.
I also love my waterproof Tour master boots, they REALLY keep the water out for the whole day under the rain.
Take care buddy.  I'll let you know. :)

Thanks Nick..do you have a one piece or a piece rain suit? Is it insulated,my last one was which I really liked till I tore it on a tree while snowmobiling.
Riding in the rain is not a big deal after you learn how to do it but keeping dry and warm...that is the key to a fun ride especially on a long haul.
