  • I have to say that I am very happy with the front stock tire (Dunlop HD).  I think I still can put at least another 1000 miles on it. but I have to change it out for my up coming long trip.  the tire has more 29000 miles on it, even tho it has a little cupping on the side wall. 8)
This time, I try out the Dunlop American elite for the front tire and the Michelin commander II on the rear.  The verdict will unveiled after my crossing the country trip in the next two weeks.
Hopefully, I will not have any issue with these new tires.
What is your tire brand and their mileages?

  • Looks like some pretty good milages. I came from a Honda VTX, and that bike just ate tires. I went through 3, (1 stock Dunny, and 2 Metzelers) in the first 18K miles. I was hoping that this new Ultra would run a little longer between new tires.

I do have a question about this thread. You really can't talk about how long a tire lasts without talking about tire pressure. A bad pressure can ruin a tire very quickly. According to the book, my 2012 Ultra should run with 36 in the front and 40 in the back. I don't think that's enough for the front, AND the tire sidewall says to run 40 in it. I've been running at 40/40. What are some of you guys running?

     :thanks:

  • Welcome DK!
I have been running my bike at the suggested pressure, 36/40, and I have great mileage as you can see in the first post.
This can be the issue.  One may think that the pressure is correct as he or she just filled it up yesterday, but the pressure may not be the same for some reason.  Again, over pressure will also shorten the tire's life too.
Tire air leaking is the most common issue due to inadequate preparation during the tire change.  I change my own tire, so I know the work is "good" :)
Of course, I check my tire pressure every time, I take the bike out for a ride.  I know it sounds silly, but one minute will give me a piece of mind for many miles on the road. :)

  • I run pressure caps on mine as long as they show green the pressure is good.

  • I gotta add this info.  I have replaced the original stem valves to the 85 angle valve stems on both wheels, so checking the pressure is not the PITA anymore. :)
