Tire Changer
« on: January 29, 2011, 07:49:25 AM »
I am thinking of buying a set of tire changer, so I have a few questions for you guys.
  • Is it worth to buy one?
  • What brand tire changer is the best for your buck?
  • How hard to learn changing the tire by yourself?
Thanks for any info.

I've just received a set of tire changer and balancer.  I've also ordered a No-mar Mojo lever.
No time to unpack them yet, but they will be used to change both of my tires before I head out for the big trip. :)

I htink if I had a set of tubeless rims, I would change my own. But mine are spoked wheels and King City Cycle only charges me 30 to change one tire so I let them and they balance it also.

Hi Gary!
Do you have to remove the wheel off the bike by yourself, or $30 is including everything?

Yes I take the wheel off bike and take it too them. I'd rather do it that way so I can check bearings and brakes. In the past anytime I had a Harley shop do it they always came up with something that needed done extra and charged 90 hr to do it. They even had the gall to tell me I needed new back brakes after I had changed them only 30 days earlier, last time it ever went to that shop. And they couldn't understand why I was upset and wanted to ride on bad brakes, put another 25K on that set of bad brakes.

That's exactly why I try to minimize of bringing my bike to the dealer.  In the matter of fact, beside touching my wheels for tire changing, there hasn't been dealer touched my bike, and I try to keep it this way. :)
Now, I have my own tire changer!
